The protection of our children from abuse is paramount. For a long time this been to the forefront in all child-related activities in our church, and in our school extra-curricular activities. In recent years steps have been taken to formalize the measures by which this protection is achieved.

The parishioners of each parish in Limerick Diocese are now required to prepare a child protection policy, and supporting procedures and codes of practice. The diocese has trained personnel who support the parishes in this task.

In Monaleen we have completed this work, and our Child Protection Policy and the related documents are implemented. The policy, procedures and practices are posted in our parish church and in our school. Users of church and national school premises in Monaleen will be required to abide by these documents. They are reproduced here on our website, so as to make them available to anybody who wishes to examine them.

They are also available for use by people who are working with children in locations other than our church and school. The documents are based on the book "Our Children, Our Church". They are consistent with the laws of Ireland, and with best practice in this state. The book "Our Children, Our Church" draws heavily on the child safety manual "Children First", which is the foundation of all child protection in Ireland.

Our child protection documents were last updated on 27th March 2006. They will be kept up to date consistent with civil law and church guidelines. These and all forms are available at the following links: Appendix 1 - forms: Appendix 2 - Recruiting, Training and Managing Personnel
Appendix 3 - Code of Behaviour for Away Trips
Appendix 4 - Contacts for Child Protection concerns

Please forward any comments or observations to the Monaleen Parish Pastoral Council.
